A Friendly Monster Doll For a Special Little Girl

I had been interested in making a cute monster doll for a while but there was no small child in our family or among our circle of friends to give it to. I certainly could have made one just for the fun of it but there had been other projects with higher priorities on my list.

Then, three weeks ago, unexpectedly a little girl came into our lives when hubby took a bag of trash to the communal garbage container. He couldn't believe his eyes when he looked into the garbage can. Someone had dumped a dog puppy. The little girl was hardly moving and didn't make a sound. Hubby brought her home, we fed her and gave her a bath. I thought she could need a little companion and sewed a friendly monster doll for her. I upcycled a cozy old sweater for the body and head, two socks for arms and legs and some fabric scraps for ears and details.

The puppy was 4 or 5 weeks old at the time hubby found her and had probably spent the whole night in the garbage container. She recovered fast from the shock of being left alone and is doing very well now. We named her Molly. Isn't she a cutie? The kitties don't think so though, lol.

Last Saturday we took Molly to the beach and it didn't take long until she found a washed up branch and a ball to play with.

She also played with her monster doll. It was a bit exhausting for the doll but she survived

I picked up some small pieces of driftwood, a few snail shells and a walnut to create jewelry or to use for assemblages.

Molly had a fun morning and we enjoyed the beach walk as well. The weather was just ideal.

Molly is totally adorable and I suspect and hope she has found her furever home. What a cutie. How can ANYONE put a puppy in a dumpster? You husband is a saint and so are you. The cats will adjust. Trust me on this -- you were meant to be.

Oh Julia Molly is just the sweetest. So glad that your hubby saw her and you two were able to save her life. How cruel people can be to animals to just throw her away like that. The doll is adorable. I hope you are going to keep Molly even if under protest by the kitties!! She is gorgeous. You and your hubby are earth angels for these sweet fur babies you save.

Your fur baby is precious! I’m so thankful there are good people in this world that will counter all the evil. Thank you for sharing this. Looks like Molly found a wonderful home and a place where she will be loved! Please continue sharing Molly’s story!

Taking in an abandoned pup is wonderful of you and making her a special toy was great. I am sure that Molly will fit in just fine - the cats may never be playmates but they will adjust. .

Gut gemacht!

Liebe Grüße
Susi

Oh you guys are so good to take in little Molly! This story touched my heart. When we moved to our new (old) home where we live now, 2-1/2 years ago, we heard a tiny meowing going on behind the fence on our neighbors' place. It continued for 2 days! I finally went out there and called for it to come, and a poor, tiny, little scraggly kitty, probably only 4 weeks old, came climbing out of the pile of garbage there. She was so glad to see someone! From that moment on, she was ours (more specifically my husband's cat, who has NEVER in his life liked cats!). We've had her now for the 2-1/2 years and she's such a joy. She has brought immeasurable joy to my husband who never could even tolerate a cat in our house! Now she lives inside, sits with him, sleeps on the bed!! (yes.. never thought THAT would ever happen!)... and now we/he have rescued two more from the same wild mother cat (who we recently trapped and had spayed). So please... make it a forever home for sweet little Molly. She looks so happy already. Your kitties will adjust.. I've had cats all my life, and a few dogs here and there, and they eventually do at least tolerate the doggies. Sweet Molly is a lucky girl. I can't even comprehend how someone can dump an animal in the garbage like that. Your monster doll is precious and I bet she'll drag that around for the rest of her life! Hugs and prayers to you!

Molly is a very lucky puppy that your husband happened along when he did and found her. And rescued her. They’re so cute when they’re puppies. I wish they could just stay that way. But they don’t so I’m a cat lady. LOL. How fun for you to decide Molly would be the little girl to need a super adorable monster doll. I’ll bet Molly just cannot believe her lucky stars to land in your family.

Omg liebe Julia,

Awwwwwwww Julia, she is gorgeous, love the markings on her face. It's completely beyond me how anyone can dump a puppy in the garbage. Horrible, insensitive human. It makes me so angry. Thank goodness your hubby found her and brought her home. I'm sure that Cecily, Cosmo and Barney will get used her as soon as she understands the purr baby "rules of the house". She absolutely lovely.

What a sweet girl! She reminds me of my first puppy. She was the runt of a litter between a border collie mom and coyote dad. I had her longer than I had 3 of my siblings! She went to her rest at 16 yrs old. We never regretted taking in an abandoned puppy! I hope your Molly brings you as much love and joy as my Sparky did for me!

The sweetest darling puppy dear Julia ,- I will never understand how people can react like that- to throw her out with the garbage - oh my goodness- She will be wildly loved and wonderfully cared for in your home , except for the kittens, LOL.
Are they also trying to steal her fun and lovely doll :-)
A beautiful tour you had to the beach- and with wonderful finds, I will look forward seeing you create jewelry with some of them!!!
Here it still is snowing today,- be happy in your sunny place dear friend.
Warm hugs, and love from Dorthe -

Oh my goodness. She is just the sweetest thing! Bless your hubby for bringing her home. What is wrong with people? I swear! It is awful here. People think it's fun to get a pet but unfortunately, they are not in it for the long haul and whenever they tire of the novelty, they throw it out, which is exactly what happened with Tofu and all the cats and dogs that are now running the streets of this country. People also dump bunnies as if they could even fend for themselves. And now exotic birds are often seen flying all around. I just don't understand that way of thinking at all. So happy that Molly has a loving home with you. Her little monster sure is cute, too.

Liebe Julia,

She will be a wonderful companion, and I love to see you celebrated her new home by making her a doll! It feels good to be back. I’ll be able to follow along now, so easily from my new blog. 😀

The doll is very cute, but the puppy is adorable. So happy your husband went to the communal garbage container that day, and so happy you and he have loving hearts. I just can't understand people that abandon or abuse animals. I love all the photos. Enjoy your new little girl.

Dear Julia,

How could someone be so heartless and horrid, makes me feel very sad that the person who did this is so cruel.
Molly is the sweetest puppy and how lovely that you have taken her into your family - hopefully the cats will grow to love her too.
The doll you made is cute and a lovely toy for Molly.
Hope you are enjoying the week

Julia it is so sweet of you to take in little Molly. We also want to get a dog but we are waiting till we can devote our full attention to it. Molly is very lucky indeed to have parents such as yourselves. Is this your first dog? Is that why the cats are not happy? It looks like you had a wonderful day at the beach.
