My Blog Makeover and Our New Kitten

I’m very excited to share my new blog design with you. When I started to create my header, the only thing I knew was, that I didn’t want to include pictures. I played around and came up with two totally different versions but neither of them really convinced me. So I started again from scratch and this time I felt right away that I was going into the right direction. I’m very happy with the result.

The new blog layout had been a challenge in a different way. For a web designer, this would have been easy-peasy but I don’t know anything about HTML. I had to do a lot of internet research to find codes and tutorials for adding lines and social media buttons, changing sizes and little details here and there. A lot of trial and error, adding, deleting and changing codes was involved. Not to forget some swearing. It was totally worth it though. I really like the lighter, less cluttered look and the the static pages, where you can find my favorite projects, an “About Me” page, a contact form etc. now. What do you think of the new look?
Cecily - Vintage with Laces

Now, on to the kitten story. It was four days after our cat Cecil’s death, when I heard a “meow” in the garden. I went down to check out what was going on. I had expected to see a strange cat but I only found our friend’s cat Toby. I was about to go back in, when Barney came by, sat down in front of a tree and started meowing. I looked up the tree and then I saw her. A tiny, very scared kitten. I grabbed a ladder and a transport box, climbed into the tree and picked her up. The poor girl was very thin and some scars showed that she had been in some serious fights during her first weeks of life already. When I brought her in, she was shy at first but hungry enough to come out of the box to eat.

To be honest, before I found her, I would have maybe considered to adopt an adult cat but not a kitten at this point of time. As cute as kittens are, they need a lot of attention and I was happy that my sweet Barney had reached an age, where he stopped playing with my decorations, supplies and artwork, trying to climb up on my dress form etc. The amazing thing is, that the little girl has the same colors as Cecil did. Other color combinations like ginger/white are much more common here. It seemed to be a twist of fate that she had showed up in our garden. We named her Cecily. In the meanwhile she is fully recovered and makes us smile and laugh every day.

Aren’t kitty paws just so sweet?

Barney was not so excited about his new step-sister but he gets used to her bit by bit and treat by treat.

Your new blog design looks very professional and I love the colors of the header! I know it took great effort and plenty of swearing but it was worth it to be happy with the look. Your new kitten was meant to be and she is super cute! Make sure you test her for leukemia and aids since she was in a few fights because that is how it spreads. Enjoy her!

Love the new blog design. Awwww about your new little kitty. She came into your lives at a good time. What an adorable face. She is marked so pretty. She looks very happy in her eyes to have found your family. I like the name Cecily too. Very adorable.

This new blog design will showcase your art just beautifully. Very well done!

Your new design looks lovely, but I think you should know it is too wide for a standard screen. I have a scroll bar appearing at the bottom to go left and right to see the whole sidebar. It is that way on both my laptop and desktop.

Cute kitty, and cute kitty toes!!

It looks great!! I've been wanting to add buttons at the top of my page too --- but don't even have "web designer" knowledge to get me started. I'm also very impressed with your ability to figure it out!

Viel Freude weiterhin euch allen miteinander,

PS: Und dein neues Blogdesign gefällt mir sehr, sehr gut!!

How sweet. Things happen at just the right times. I much prefer cats than dogs. Our cat follows us everywhere outside, even to the pond. Once there he had to let us know it was too hot and he wanted to go home. Have a wonderful weekend. Alaina

Ooooooooooooooooooooch!

I love your new blog design and good for you doing it all yourself! I really need a change too, but I actually feel nauseated whenever I think of trying to do it. Someday I may get brave, but not for now.
Your's is so lovely!

You have a new love for life - this kitten will think of you as her mother and will adore you. She is so very cute. I love cats and have three. All three of my cats did not have homes and I caught them and tamed them. My latest is inside and I will not let him go out again until I am sure he will come back in. He adores my oldest cat and they are together constantly. Once in a while, Tom will let me pet him but more times than not runs away from me. He is litter box trained and knows to use the scratching post so he now has the run of the house. What a warm story you have shared with us.

Hallo liebe Julia,

I love using vintage laces on handmade pillows and also altered art pieces. So I will definitely be following your blog.
So sorry to hear of the mishap of the iron gate. May your hubby soon recover. The bright spot was the beautiful kitten. I adore cats, but know exactly what you mean about an older cat being easier to raise. But you new Cecily is beautiful!
I love your blog!
