Recycled Fabric Pumpkins

Today I’d like to show you some rustic pumpkins that I had sewn for our little covered patio. All three are made from recycled fabrics.

Upcycled Fabric Pumpkins by Vintage with Laces

For the largest one I used a piece of well worn upholstery fabric that I had ripped off an old rocking chair. The original color was dried mustard with some red in it and first I wanted to keep it that way. When the pumpkin was finished though, I just couldn’t stand those colors and painted the pumpkin with some acrylic paint.

The leaf and stem are made from vintage burlap.

The pumpkin below is made out of an old off-white terry towel that I had dyed vintage grey, using silk paint and coffee.

For the stem I used some scraps of knit fabric. I had crocheted the flower just recently and was happy to find the perfect button for it in my stash.

For the smallest one I used an old knitted sock. All fabrics were of course washed before they moved into the studio. Just in case you are wondering, lol.

Isn’t the stenciled sack a great backdrop for my pumpkins? It was a gift from my dear friend Marie over at Lost Bird Studio, along with this gorgeous tag and some pretty lace.

Vintage Inspired Tag

The lovely envelope contained some chalkboard labels which I’ll put on my jars of homemade jam. The sweet oval tag was hanging from a vintage linen dish towel that I already use in the kitchen. Thank you so much again, dear Marie.

Thank you very much for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

I sometimes think of you when I sit down to my own sewing machine and wonder what you are whipping up in your studio. Today I must go clean mine up before I even start, so naturally I am dragging my feet a little and sitting at the computer instead :0

My oh my Julia how very creative and talented you are! I dunno if you saw my excited comments under the pinterest photo of your new fabric pumpkin creations yesterday, but at first sight the picture literally took my breath away. Yes they are so breathtaking my dear! Wonderful work of art! And Marie sent you the most gorgeous gifts because apart from your beautiful pumpkins I'm also in love with the grain sack in the backgound. The stenceling on it looks fantastic! Her tag and other tokens are very lovely too! So glad you got another friendship parcel to enjoy! I'll answer your email later today. I'm in the process of wrapping your presents right now.
Have a beautiful day my friend!

Liebe Julia,

FrauHummel said...

Liebe Julia,
menno, was mag ich deine Kürbisse!!

Hello my dear Julia
These patio pumpkins are simply gorgeous in the recycled fabrics and knits. I love the painted one especially - it's so good to be able to easily change a colour when necessary. They look just perfect against dear Marie's stenciled grain sack which is also just fantastic.
They really works of art sweetie!
Hope you are well and that my email (skype) arrived to you.
I hope you have the best week dear friend,
Thinking of you fondly with love and kisses,

Allerliebstige Julia,
