Catch of the Day: Fabric and Lace Fishes

Do you like fish? I’m very picky when it comes to fish and only like to eat the kinds that don’t have tiny fish bones. My fabric fishes certainly don’t have any and they don’t smell fishy either. I had so much fun sewing them, that I made more than I had planned to. For these I used some linen sample pieces I got from an interior decorator some years ago and gave them some lace fins.

As you can see, I had fun with the photo shoot too.

Linen and Lace Fishes

I like the rather simple linen fishes but I wanted a couple real lacey ones too and sewed some, using mainly different kinds of eyelet lace.

Ach liebstige Julia,

Your fabric fishies are so very beautiful! Of course, everything you make is just lovely. Thanks for your recent emails. It is a rather dusty day so I guess I will take the day off from walking, but honestly, sitting makes my back hurt much worse. Better to keep moving somehow. Hope you have a lovely day. Tammy

I love your fabric fishes! I think fish are wonderful, and I have been trying to figure out how to transition my somewhat shabby, romantic cottage-looking living room (that is mostly pinks and pale greens & vanilla whites) into an updated, beach-house feel. I think you have inspired a look I can create, using many of my pastel vintage textiles and abundant lace collection. I can sew fish! And display them on my white slipcovered sofa. Or alone. We'll see. Thanks for the inspiration. You are truly talented.

Your linen and lace fish are genius! I also love the more casual, laid back denim variety, too. I can't decide which I would like to create first. I have oodles of vintage lace pieces and way less denim hoarded away. It was so creative of you to use certain fin-like pieces of ruffled lace as actual fins!!! I will do that, too. But all my fish will be just for me because I don't have a store or a booth or sell things ever. Once I create, I want to keep it. Oh, and while writing this message, I see that I already left a comment back in June. Oh well. I still love what you do.
