Flea Market Treasures and the Best Find Ever

On the last couple of Sundays I found some great treasures at the flea market that I would like to share with you.

I have a thing for pudding molds and I was happy when I got those two for a song.

pudding molds

I also love enameled  items and therefore this chippy bottle came home with me.

When hubby saw me carrying this bucket, he asked me what I want to use it for. I said “It’s so pretty, you know and it even has a lid”. I certainly knew that this was no answer to his question but since I didn’t have a plan what to do with it, I wanted to point out its qualities and gain some time to come up with an idea, lol. Hubby smiled at me, asked again and I told him that this bucket makes a great storage container because it has a lid :-).

A week later I spotted another cream colored bucket. No more questions from hubby. He just smiled. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of a bucket collection.

White or cream colored ironstone is not easy to find over here and so my heart jumped for joy when I found this pitcher.

I was also excited about this cast-iron fleur de lys. It’s 12” high and I was happy that I found it at the first booth that day, so that the car was not far away and I didn’t have to carry this heavy thing for too long.

Fleur de Lys

Another cast-iron item that I had bought was a lovely door knocker. A box full of vintage swan ornaments was a great find as well.

These vintage silver cones and bells as well as the zinc bowl will be part of my Christmas decoration.

No clothes line will get winded around this vintage winder but laces :-). I also love the wooden spool and wish the dealer would have had more of those for sale.

Isn’t that a sweet doll dress? All the embroideries and even the edges are done by hand.

Transfer ware with red and green patterns can be found frequently over here. Brown is very rare though and I was lucky to find this sugar bowl and even luckier that it was only 75 cents.

I wouldn’t say that I had always dreamed about a vintage rusty grain scoop but when I saw this one, I knew I had to have it. I also couldn’t pass up the Christmas tree toppers and a bag of wide laces.

The best find ever hadn’t been found at the flea market but last year just outside the house though. Cecil had been a starving, straying cat with a very bad ear infection. He had scratched himself so intensively that the skin behind his ears was all gone. We took him to the vet, nursed him back to health and decided to keep him. He is the sweetest cat and very cuddly. We are so happy to have this cute little guy around.

I have started to work on Christmas decorations and enjoy this a lot. Especially Christmas trees are so much fun to make and some popped out of my studio into the living room already. What kind of Christmas projects are you working on, dear friends?

Hallo liebste, those are fantastic finds,-the molds are great, and the enamel vares, so wonderfull, and I love the white ironstone, as well, but I think the fleur de lys, is the most gorgeus find , Dear Julia,-but that goes for the swan-ornaments,laces, dor-knot, -the winder, and beautifull silver glass ornaments, too- SOOOOOOOOOO many gorgeus finds, sweetie.

We have had a sweet and dear cat here ,too,-but as we live close to a head-road- they get killed so often, that I stopped-I can`t bare finding them on the street!!!
Your cat looks so beautifull, and cared for, -and very sweet.
A friend for lifetime.

Dear friend,it was so good seing all your beautifull finds,--I hope you have a lovely evening.
I`m wawing you back across the pond, sending you many liebe grüsse,-and kys,-og knus.

Wow liebe Julia! Was für grandiose Flohmarktschätze.

WOW, I think you hit the jackpot there, what fabulous finds! Can I please be the tiniest bit envious? Every single thing is just divine. I love the glittery silver pine cones best, I think, because they so remind me of my childhood in Germany. A very close second has got to be that amazing fleur de lys, I wouldn't have cared how far I had to carry it, lol, thats just the bestest ever thing.
Have a lovely evening, x

Bin total verliebt in Euren süßen Cecil.

LiLi M. said... sure hit the flea jackpot! Mmm I think these are all favorites, where to start? I think that door knocker isn't in my 'digital' collection. I love it, but as you can easily understand I love it all! Oh and how wonderful that you rescued that cute and sweet Cecil. I can see he loves the same stuff as we all do! I have that same koh-i-noor pin tin! What a great vintage loving cat!

Great find, lach! Ja, ja, da hängt man schon sein Herz dran!

That is one content looking cat. I've never really looked at pudding molds, but your fluted one has great patina- now I have something new to look for...and if you only paid 75 cents for that sugar bowl- I think you stole it!!!

Huhu liebe Julia!

Julia I love all of your great treasures, so many wonderful things you have found on the flea market, that kind of stuff I do not find here in Denmark on flea markets, but the cat is the best, I also have a rescued cat. Have a nice weekend.

Alles Liebe und Küschelbü

I can't believe it took me this long to comment!!!!! First off I agree, the best treasures are the ones that find us aren't they? Cecil could be in commercials with that face. I love how you said you don't dream about a rusty scoop but you liked it when you say it. That pretty much sums up my whole way of junking. I rarely go out with an intention, I buy what moves me & then figure out what to do with it. Tell your husband I use my covered bucket as a trash can in the bathroom. Lisa

Karen said...

I would have to agree - Cecil is your best find EVER! But JULIA! Look at all the wonderful things you've discovered. OMG! I would've been skipping along singing a song out loud if I'd found your haul.
Love the pine cones! And BOTH of the buckets! The pudding molds are outstanding! Someday I will have a kitchen that sort of thing can be displayed in. ANd the chippy bottle. Sigh.
You did well.
I haven't started Christmas yet - I always wait for our Holiday of Thanksgiving first. I think it get overlooks so very often and I am shaking things up a bit around here this year . . . we'll see how it goes! :)
Have a wonderful Fall weekend my Friend!
Big hugs from my ocean to yours! Karen

Deine Flohmarktschätze sind traumhaft! Du hast sie richtig schön in Szene gesetzt - so richtig was fürs Auge.

Julia, I have gone over and over your finds and can't decide which ones I love the most. The first time through, I thought that the chippy bottle had to be my favorite, but then the next time through it was the wooden spool with the lace wound around it. I give up...I love it all. You really did find some wonderful things, all of which will be beautiful in your home.
As far as Christmas goes, I have only got the outdoor lights on the gazebo and the fence hung. I have been busy making gifts though. It keeps from visiting all my favorite blogging friends, and that's not good. I love to see what is going on in your world every chance I get.

have a wonderful coming week dear one... said...

I'd have a bucket collection too if I could find cute ones like that!

First, of course the kitty is the best find, lol. Just came across your blog, beautiful things, the pictures are breath taking. I live in a small cramped townhouse, so I will just enjoy from your photography (did I mention it was amazing) instead of collecting on my own. (hubby and kids did enough "junk" collecting, now we are slowly trying to minimize)
