Did you ever go on a mushroom foray? My dear husband and I did that last year for the first time. We went into the forest and picked a basket full, not really knowing what we had found. I had thought it would be easier to identify them with that very detailed book that we had with us, but some edible and poisoned mushrooms look pretty similar and we certainly didn’t want to take a risk here. We asked a friend, who is very knowledgeable about mushrooms, to look at our finds and she told us that none of them were poisoned but not very tasty either. So we decided not to prepare them.

Last week we didn’t go into the woods to pick mushrooms but to watch out for  a couple of nature items I could use as embellishments for a mushroom collage, like beechnuts and feathers.

Mushroom Collage - Vintage with Laces

During our excursion I also spotted an empty snail shell and some pine cones. A bit of the Spanish moss that my friend Jodie had sent me, was a great addition to my creation as well.

The collage is now hanging  in our living room but for the photo shoot I took it outside and pinned it to a tree.

These mushrooms are not the only ones for my fall decoration. My friend Liz had sent me a basket, filled with beautiful fabric mushrooms she had made. Aren’t they adorable?

Fabric Mushrooms

Some of them were excited to meet a real one :-).

The mushrooms went of course back into the living room after the photo shoot as well :-).

Some trees have started to become yellow over here and we even have the heater on already. There are still quite some tourists in town but it’s not as crowded anymore as in July and August. I love the clear crisp air in the mornings and enjoy those fall days much more than the summer heat.

I hope you enjoy this season too. Have a wonderful week, dear friends!

Leider!
Viele liebe Grüße

I love your mushroom hanging, Julia--gorgeous! And your friend Liz's mushrooms are so beautiful with their lace and other embellishments--makes me want to start my own mushroom collection for fall!

This is vintage with laces meets autumn! I love it!! It's gorgeous, adorable. Love the photos of your collage pinned to the tree. You should make a pin board like that, it is so natural that way (let it hang outside is definitely no option, so take the tree (or its bark) inside). The mushrooms are so pretty and inspiring too. I totally agree with Beth Leintz.

I adore your beautiful collage, Julia! I have never gone mushroom hunting but you could certainly change ones mind with this beauty. I love fall and am happy it is upon us! The leaves are just starting to change here.

Julia, I'm glad you didn't eat anything that could have been harmful! I think fabric ones are much safer and will last forever too!
They're so clever! And I love your hanging!

Oh I love your collage Julia! So beautiful (as only you can do)! I can imagine that it is so pretty hanging in your livingroom. I enjoy seeing your creations so much.
I haven't had much luck looking for mushrooms either. I think I am too scared I would poison my husband, and end up on some television Crime and Forensics show. LOL!
Liz's mushrooms are darling!

Hallo Julia,
habe gerade deinen Blog entdeckt.

What a great fall theme you have for your home. I love how you took the pictures by the tree, perfect backdrop. I just got a new book called Woodland Style, you would love it. A lot of stuff like that. Lisa

Dear Julia,

Love your mushroom collage and how you have taken your photos outdoors.
I would be very wary of getting mushrooms in the forest as do not know which are edible and poisonous.
When I was small we used to get field mushrooms, which was fun to do.
the little mushrooms Liz made are cute.

Have a lovely week and enjoy the Autumn colours, must be beautiful.

I just drool over everything you make Julie. I'm a little obsessed with all things mushrooms myself and have tons of them in prints and in fabric. Also love eating them. I remember going foraging with my family in France but had no idea what I was looking a matter of fact I think the rest of them didn't find too many either. I guess it's the being outside and the hunt that makes it fun.
Happy cool Fall to you too.

Deine Collage is traumhaft, Julia!
