Lovely Laces, an Iron Foot and Some Other Great Finds

The flea market season has started and I was lucky to find some great treasures on the last couple of Sundays. I already had one of those bon bon jars but couldn’t resist to buy a second one of the same kind.  They just look lovely filled with buttons, laces or doilies. When I saw the Eiffel Tower bottle, I knew it would have to come home with me. The sugar bowl was a nice find as well. Since I will turn it into a pincushion, I  don’t mind the missing lid.

cup, eiffel tower, sugar bowl

A sweet cup and saucer. I love the fish-scale pattern.

cup and saucer

Pretty handkerchiefs and a silver plated tea spoon.

handkerchiefs

Three beautiful rhinestone brooches. Two of them were found by dear hubby for me. The spool of thread is huge and I bought it for decoration purposes.

rhinestone brooches

These letters in lovely handwriting date from 1890 and 1894.

My favorite lace and linen dealer had a bunch of vintage laces for me

and several doilies.

I also bought an old sack, a large piece of vintage muslin and two table cloths. I’m not sure about the intended purpose of the piece in the middle. The crocheted part is a bit less narrow than the woven cotton it is sewn to. I could imagine that it was a coverlet for a day bed and the crocheted border would hang in front of the bed but I can be totally wrong.

sack and tablecloths

These are my metal treasures. Isn’t the cast iron foot cool? It’s a shoemaker’s tool and it’s very heavy. Therefore it makes a great door stopper. I also found a potato scoop, the face of a pressure measuring device, a pretty door handle, some tiny keys, copper rings and copper wire.

I  was excited when I got this pair of cast iron garden stakes for a song. Now I just need a garden, LOL. In the meanwhile they look very pretty in the living room.

For only 70 Cents a piece I couldn’t pass up these two framed pictures. The more often I look at them, the more I like them. Now I just have to find the right spot for them.

Have a lovely Friday and a wonderful weekend, dear friends! If you will go treasure hunting, I wish you lots of fun and great finds!

HUGS,

Julia

Hallo liebe Julia,
Birgit

Hi Julia, I couldn't leave comment earlier but luckily now I can! You did some amazing finds! I love that shoemakers tool. I have a wooden sock model that plays the part of door stopper over here, but I guess cast iron will be even better! And those garden stakes just tdf ....I never pass a doily nor a piece of lace. And those letters sigh...well everything you picked up is so beautiful! I am so happy that the flea market season started again! Wishing you much more amazing finds (so that you can make more of those beautiful posts for us!), have a lovely week!

Julia, you're killing me! I so want those treasures. I especially love the old letters and the garden stakes. As for the lace.....well, I have some but now that I see what you have and what you do with it, I know what my flea market radar will be narrowing in on. It's been 32 years since I was gallivanting around Europe (including Germany) and if only I had the same passions then as I do now. I would have left all my belonging behind and stuffed my backpack with flea market finds. Keep posting and I'll keep drooling! Hugs from your newest follower and fan, Nancy ~

Hello Julia,

WOW, what super great finds you found at the flea Market. I especially love that Eiffel Tower Bottle and of course all the lovely laces.

Julie you brought great memories of going to the flea markes in Germany. I loved them so and admires my finds to this day.

Do you garden?? There is a one time Magazine out at the moment called " Flea Market Gardens"!!using Flea Market Treausres to decorate your garden is the big trend at the moment. I ordered mine via the internet. I used one of my red and blue bottle I found in Italy as my first garden art. I will get a pic and put it on my blog, I am sure you would love it to. Hugs Judy
