♥ Sweet Hearts ♥

With the beginning of the new year I had several fragmentary ideas in mind what I would like to do in my studio. I had never worked with the back of a canvas before and so I wanted to try that. Then, with Valentine’s Day around the corner I thought of sewing some hearts and another plan was to use bees wax again in some creations. However, every time I entered my creative space, I played around a bit with some supplies but I wasn’t inspired and ended up sorting my stash or ironing laundry. That didn’t make me too happy, LOL.

On Monday, all of a sudden, my scrappy ideas fell into place and I created a Valentine's collage on the back of a canvas, using a fabric heart and adding some bees wax.

Here you can see that I had melted bees wax on the background and as well on an old handwritten letter that I had cut into strips and adhered to the inner border of the canvas. I love to use wax on double sided book pages or letters because it makes the reverse side shining through.

Coeur is the French word for heart. I had cut it out of a French dictionary.

After I had finished the collage, I was in the mood for some more Valentine themed things and so I created these embellishments

hearts

and a bookmark.

“You complete me”

Don’t you just love that quote from the movie “Jerry Maguire”?

I used the large heart, some lace and a button to prettify a simple linen shopping tote.

Are you working on or have you finished any Valentine’s projects? I would love to hear about them.

Have a wonderful week, dear friends!

HUGS,

Julia

Well, Julia, it might have been a while coming, but when inspiration did finally strike, it did a fabulous job! I love your collage on the canvas back. So many fantastic elements. I think if I saw it in real life, I would spent ages and ages, fondling it, tracing things with my fingertips, and oohing and aaahing over it. It really is an exquisite piece.

I love all the details on your back of the canvas piece- but I equally love the simplicity of the bookmark- so inspiring.

There you are my friend! Wondering what you were up to! Happy New Year - and almost Happy Valentines Day!
LOVE THESE! I love, love, love the tote. OMG too cute!
I have worked on the backside of a canvas and really enjoyed it. At first we were making something very similar out of a thick Styrofoam but I then discovered the canvas was much easier; half the work! Love that!
Not sure if you caught the post of the soldering class I took. I was thinking of you a lot that day because I was using 2 of the special little hearts you had given me. (I know - I hoard!) Now my piece is just that much more special to me cause there is a little bit of you in it too! YAY!
Glad to see you out and about!
Take care and have a great week!
Hugs! Karen

Julia, beautiful! A wonderful idea using the back of the canvas, as you have a built in frame LOL. Love it!

For some reason not all your pics loaded for me, but what I can see is sheer gorgeousity! (is there such a word?)

"However, every time I entered my creative space, I played around a bit with some supplies but I wasn’t inspired and ended up sorting my stash or ironing laundry."

Oh gosh - that has happened to me repeatedly lately. Maybe today will be the day when I actually stop playing with 'stuff' and do something!

Hugs,

Sue

I was so excited Julia when I saw you had posted. I'm sure you are happy to not be ironing anymore and creating again. It does feel good when the juices come back and they certainly have for you. I love what you've created. You always know just the right details to use and it's a treat for the eyes to inspect every well chosen piece.
As for myself...
I've done very little creative wise except just recently with painting a few things around the house....but that doesn't really count. Oh a jacket that I've attempting to alter...still a ways to go.
Welcome back!

Hi Julia,
Your canvas is so inspiring. It must have been the smell of freshly ironed linen that helped your creative juices. I find ironing very calming.
Good to hear from you.
Hugs, Angela.

That canvas is simply gorgeous. Working on the inside of the canvas is something I haven't tried yet. I love the Valentine theme and how you have worked it out! All those layers of sweetness! That tote and the bookmarks are so lovely too. It may have taken a while, but you are totally back in the flow, keep it like that and let us enjoy too! Have a great week, hugs LiLi

This piece is awesome Julie! I had to laugh at your first paragraph beause that sounds just like me! I get a lot of nothing done in my creative space. I was cleaning it last night and I told hubby it seemed that I was only moving things from one room to another. LOL

Julia,
So good to see your post! I always get so much inspiration from your ideas. I love the idea of using the back of the canvas, what a natural frame for art. I love all the embellishments & the words you used. Very, VERY cool my friend! I like the free range stitching you did on the hearts, do you have a free motion needle for your machine? I bought one last year. I play with it, but it takes practice!!! I still usually just use my regular foot. I've been playing with some heart & valentine themed work as well. Hopefully I'll actually get a couple finished in time for the holiday! Hope your doing well sweetie.
